Job Description

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of P&ID, process calculations, and mechanical design principles, ensuring accuracy in specifications and designs.
  • Project Management: Ability to develop and manage design plans, input/output lists, and adhere to project schedules.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in performing calculations for design adequacy and conducting technical bid analyses.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Experience in coordinating with vendors, interfacing with external agencies, and leading cross-departmental meetings.


Job Description:

  • Coordinate with Mechanical Engineering effort and the team allocated for specific large value EPC (Oil and gas / bio chemicals / water / desalination projects).
  • Liaison with the execution teams during the life cycle of project execution.
  • Plan engineering activities and make planning documents available for use by the Mechanical team.
  • Prepare and issue a project specific Mechanical Design Plan, which will be the blueprint for the engineering of that project.
  • Complete system engineering of the project with any system calculations. Examples – hydraulic calculations, HFDs, tank capacity calculations for water and waste water projects.
  • Coordinate, review and approve third party calculations and analyses such as structural designs (using STAAD), pipe stress analysis (using CAESAR), FEA and CFD analyses.
  • Implement Corrective Actions and Lessons Learned effectively.
  • Develop, review & release component specifications, datasheets & requisitions. Subsequently, review & approve sub-vendor quotations.
  • Review detailed design outputs such as civil input drawings, foundation loading, plant layouts, piping layouts, skid/module designs with an eye for cost optimization & constructability.
  • Attend project review meetings and make schedule commitments on behalf of the design team.
  • Attend technical meetings with customers as necessary.
  • Interface between various engineering disciplines & the execution team to ensure that the design process proceeds per schedule.
  • Support queries from sites, subcontractors and sub-vendor shops.
  • Handling overall project from Mechanical Engineering perspective involving various activities.
  • Study customer specifications and pre-order documents and correspondence.
  • Study P&ID, Process calculations and layout.
  • Prepare Design plan, Design Input list and Design output list with respect to Project schedule.
  • Prepare Piping material specifications, Painting specifications.
  • Prepare Datasheets for Valves, Non-metallic tanks and other Misc. piping specialty items.
  • Review drawings and quotations of items and prepare Technical Bid Analysis.
  • Perform calculations to check the adequacy of design.
  • Coordinate with Piping stress analysis vendor wherever necessary and check the effect on piping and supports.
  • Attend Kick-off meetings and weekly review meetings for the job.
  • Check inputs required for design for adequacy.
  • Check design output whether it meets design input and project requirements. This involves Layout, Skid GA, Skid frame, supports and Piping.
  • Interface with external design agencies.
  • Attend Kick-off meetings with customers wherever necessary.
  • Conduct coordination meetings with Basic and Electrical and Instrumentation departments.
  • Conduct various design reviews and maintain records as well as maintain various logs as per ISO procedure.
  • Participate in ISO internal and external audits.
  • Address NCR from Shop/Site and queries from Fabricator. Add the feedbacks in Lessons Learned and use them as a checklist in future Projects.
  • Check model at 30%, 60% and 90% stage in line with checklist and customer specifications.
